Rector of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church Asbury Park
Rev. Andrea R. Hayden will be installed by Bishop, Rt. Rev. George Councell
on Saturday, November 6, 2005 as the new Rector of St. Augustine's Episcopal
Church.
Rev. Hayden was born in Kingston, Jamaica and grew up in Chicago. She
earned her undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the Illinois
Institute of Technology, and worked for 10 years as a Pollution Control
Officer with the Water Reclamation District of Chicago.
She began her theological studies at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary
in Evanston, Illinois, where she graduated in 1998. Rev. Hayden was ordained
to the priesthood in 1999. During her time in Chicago, Rev. Hayden worked
as the Youth Ministry Coordinator for the Midwest region (Province V)
for the Episcopal Church of the United States of America.
Rev, Hayden's first job out of seminary was as Assistant Rector to the
Rev. Dr. Kortright Davis at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Washington,
DC. She next served as an Associate Rector at All Souls Memorial Episcopal
Church in DC, and then as interim Chaplain at Howard University, where
she also taught Bio-ethics at the School of Medicine.
Rev. Hayden's next step was to serve at St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church
in Brooklyn, New York, however, she interviewed for the Rector position
at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church by the Search Committee and she was
hired. This became Rev. Hayden's first Rector's job and St. Augustine's
second female Rector.
Rev. Hayden's parents resides in Port Charlotte, Florida with her four
sisters and two brothers. The Vestry and parishioners of St. Augustine's
Episcopal Church welcomes Rev. Andrea R. Hayden.
